Adoption

Many individuals perceive adoption as a noble act, while seeking to fill a void within themselves. However, they often overlook or are unaware of the harmful methods and practices within the adoption agencies and the traumas that come with adoption. The need for abundant love and meticulous care needs to transcend how you would treat your own. Trans-racial adoptees, particularly, require connection to their cultural roots and awareness of societal hazards. Whether ensnared in the foster care system, adopted from birth, or separated from their birth families forcibly, adoptees grapple with myriad issues. Most harbor a desire to reunite with their biological parents and some may endure mental health challenges like Borderline Personality Disorder and struggle with relationships. Despite inclusion efforts, trans-racial adoptees frequently experience a sense of alienation. Adoption demands immense dedication, research, and perseverance, sometimes yielding unexpected outcomes. For instance, I, myself, was not the "pocket princess" my adoptive mother envisioned, but rather a strong-willed individual who likes to kick bigotry and injustice in the ass. Prospective adoptive parents must educate themselves on these complexities and assess their capacity to navigate them. Additionally, alternatives to traditional adoption, such as kinship (child is placed with another family member), fictive kinship (child is placed within the same culture or community), legal guardianship (preserves the adoptees rights and their biological history), and adoption with consent (which should be the last resort), offers varying degrees of support while preserving the child's rights and heritage.
